The sweetest thing
David had lap-band surgery yesterday and the kids went to school so they didn't see him again until they got home. When they came in he was resting and they went to check on him. After Brent walked out of the room, Ryleigh stayed in there and was asking him how he felt and if she could do anything for him. Then she said, "Oh wait, I know what will make you better" and jumped off of the bed and ran to her room. When she came back she said, "Do you know what this is??" Of course, David did because you see, this bear belonged to David when he was a kid and when David's mom came across it, Rye just had to bring it home. She has had it for about a year now and every once in a while when I check on her in the middle of the night she will be snuggling with it. I know this little one can be a handful and is quite the mess but she truly does have the biggest most caring heart. She is such a little caretaker and always the first to genuinely be concerned about anyone that isn't feeling well and she always remembers to call and check on people. Anyway, in the end, she propped the bear up and left it to watch over Daddy for the rest of the night.

Radiation Strikes by Brent Self
Brent came home with a project to create a 3-d boy or girl and also write a composition to go with it. The rules were that it had to incorporate at least 4 different shapes and you were to be creative. You didn't necessarily have to go out and buy stuff but seriously, who can create an entire 3-d project without dropping some dough at Michael's?? We started out at the house and the recycling bin was our friend and then we ventured out for the rest. It turned into quite the family project but in the end, we were all definitely proud of the results!! I thought I would add Brent's story to give it a little more life:
"Yawn!" I moaned, getting into my clothes. My grey tee had huge holes in the back so my wings could spread. I rushed to my closet and looked for my special suit. "Where's the suit?!" I screamed. "Where's the space-suit?!" I searched frantically in my closet, but the suit was nowhere to be found.
"Ooh, ooh, I know!" I said. I looked in the sauce cabinet and nothing. "Darn it!" I said surprised. "Hey, Robot, get over here!" "Please enter passcode" it responded. "Okay, here goes..." Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep (1,000,000 beeps later) beep, beep, beep, "All done" I yelled. "Thingy located" the robot said. It brought the suit and hit me with a pickle. A PICKLE!!! So, I kicked him out and put the suit on.
I flew to the space station and headed to Mars. After the landing, I got off and heard noises. "Stay back!" I said, "I have a fan!" I threatened. I was approached by a small figure who said, "Surrender!" "For you and what army?" I asked. "Ummm...I don't know, no one ever comes here" it answered. The radiation was killing me so....I left. When I got home, I looked in the mirror and yelled! OH MY GOSH!! My wooden nose looked as if pounded in my face and my eyes looked like Mountain Dew bottle caps. And you don't want to know the rest!
Well, I think I'll just have this body forever and I hope I can turn back into my normal self again. Oh, come on, it can happen!!!

Just makes me laugh
On Sunday night I curled up on the sofa to watch some t.v. and as I was scrolling through the listing of recorded shows, I found the one that I wanted and said, "Ooh, a Lifetime movie.." Ryleigh, who of course doesn't miss a thing, instantly says, "That's where the boys are always the bad guys, right?!?" I couldn't do anything but smile at my little 17 yr. old trapped in a 7 yr. old's body. Her hearing definitely works because I said, "Let me guess, you heard that from Grandpa?" She responded with a, "Yeah, I think so." Speaking of hearing, I fear that mine needs some help. Last night we were in Ryles room while she cleaned her closet and she says, "This doesn't fit me, assholes" I knew I had to have heard wrong so I asked her what she said and she looked right at me and said, "This doesn't fit me and it has holes." She then kept looking at me like I was a crazy person because I just started laughing. Damn you 30, I thought your eyesight was supposed to be the first thing to go??
